Questions & Answers

Yoga

  • What can I expect from a yoga class?

Think of our classes as a gentle, supportive space just for women and mothers. Each sequence is designed with the female body in mind, and our schedule is crafted to meet you where you are in your reproductive or parenting journey. The atmosphere is cozy with soft lighting, no mirrors, and small class sizes so you can feel safe, seen, and cared for.

  • What should I bring and wear?

Truly, just bring yourself. We provide everything you’ll need—mats, straps, blocks, and bolsters are all here waiting for you. Wear whatever feels soft and comfortable, even pajamas if that’s where you’re at. If you’re coming straight from work or errands in less-than-comfy clothes, that’s okay too—we’ll make it work together.

  • How do I schedule my first class?

You can book on this page or the link in bio @pearmaternalmindbody.

  • Where is the studio located and where do I park?

We’re nestled inside Virginia Beach Physical Therapy and Wellness, in Great Neck Square: 2130 Great Neck Square, Virginia Beach, VA 23454. There’s free parking available for everyone in the shopping center, so you can arrive with ease.

  • Do you have showers or other amenities?

We have bathrooms and dressing rooms available for you.

  • Can I bring my baby to class?

Yes, please do. Many of our yoga classes offer child care support, so your little one is welcome here. We just ask that you send us a quick text at (757) 348-7521 at least 24 hours in advance, so we can be sure staff is ready to greet you both.

  • Can prenatal yoga induce labor?

Prenatal yoga is a beautiful practice to help prepare body and mind for labor, but there isn’t strong evidence that it directly induces labor. Instead, think of it as a way to soften into relaxation, build strength, and support your overall well-being as you prepare to welcome your baby. And always, your healthcare provider is your best guide for personal advice.

  • Can I start prenatal yoga in the third trimester?

Absolutely. Whether it’s your first class or your hundredth, it’s never too late to begin.

  • Why is prenatal yoga good for you?

Relaxation & Stress Relief: A calming practice that can ease anxiety, quiet the mind, and support a sense of peace during pregnancy.

Gentle Strength & Flexibility: Helps your body feel strong, open, and supported—preparing muscles and joints for birth.

Mind-Body Connection: Cultivates mindfulness and awareness, helping you enter labor with trust, readiness, and confidence.

  • Can I start prenatal yoga if I’m new to yoga?

Yes, absolutely. Prenatal yoga is a beautiful and gentle place to begin your yoga journey. Many women step onto the mat for the very first time during pregnancy and find it to be both approachable and deeply supportive. Every class is guided with care, offering modifications so you can move safely, comfortably, and confidently—no experience needed.

Counseling & Coaching

  • What can I expect from a counseling session?

Our counseling services begin with a traditional mental health assessment that helps us determine a treatment plan and a way forward on your healing path.

Whether we decide trauma informed coaching or psychotherapy, we partner with you to transform the challenging parts of your reproductive and parenting journeys into growth-inspired, healing moments along your personal development journey.

  • Do you accept insurance?

Yes. We accept most major insurances, including Anthem, BCBS, Humana, United, Aetna, Cigna, and Medicaid.

  • Do you offer payment plans?

We never want finances to stand in the way of care. Whenever possible, we’ll work with you to create a payment arrangement that fits your family’s needs.

  • What type of payment do you accept for your counseling and coaching services?

We accept credit and debit cards, which can be uploaded to our secure patient portal during intake. Cash payments are also accepted if needed.

  • What should I do if I'm interested in therapy but feel hesitant or unsure about starting?

You’re welcome to schedule a free Welcome Chat, or simply join one of our yoga classes or workshops to get a feel for the space and community before committing.

  • How often should I attend therapy sessions?

That depends on your needs, priorities, and schedule. Together, we’ll create a support plan that feels realistic and sustainable for you.

  • Do you offer virtual coaching or counseling?

Yes. I’m happy to offer virtual sessions to meet the needs of my clients. Coaching can be provided across state lines, while counseling is available only to Virginia residents due to licensing requirements. While I do prefer to meet in person for our very first session, your comfort and accessibility come first and I’m always glad to adjust to what works best for you.

  • What types of issues or concerns can prenatal & postnatal therapy help address?

Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders are the number one complication of childbirth and a significant and currently alarming number of cases go untreated every year. Many of these conditions are treatable and go away with support. We focus on supporting our mothers, women and families with support that helps them navigate this challenging and important adjustment to motherhood. We work on things ranging from self-worth, anxious mood, effective communication and boundary setting with family and friends, and coping to help you feel comfortable and eventually confident in this new role.

  • What are the benefits of participating in prenatal therapy during pregnancy?

We believe mental health care belongs in every birth plan. Having a professional provider alongside you means someone is monitoring your wellbeing, ruling out more serious concerns, and offering ongoing support throughout this life-changing time. Our prenatal clients often reach out within the first week postpartum, already feeling safe and known because of the trust we built during pregnancy. This early connection can make the difference between surviving and truly thriving as a new parent.

  • Can you still help me even if I don’t want to receive a diagnosis?

Yes! We know this season naturally brings significant stressors, and needing support doesn’t always mean you want (or need) a formal diagnosis. We’re here to walk with you either way.

  • Do you offer EMDR?

Yes. Jessica is EMDR-trained and often uses this therapy to help clients reprocess significant life events—from birth trauma to childhood experiences. It can also help desensitize everyday stressors of motherhood that may feel overwhelming or trigger anxious moods. You can learn more here.
