Her daddy has spent every Saturday since March, taking her and her brother fishing and adventuring around this sweet city we call home.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Exploring hidden beaches and discovering new fishing holes.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Coming home with hilarious stories and great laughs to share with me.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So today we woke up early, and accompanied her daddy to his favorite break in Rodanthe, Hatteras island.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And made it all about him.⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As she said, “daddy, that looks like a good wave for you to ride”. It was.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And while the kids played in the shore break, I was comforted by a familiar sensation.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’ve spent most of my life near the ocean. East and West coasts, and this spot is the sweetest.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
On the east coast, my favorite, watching the sun rise over the coast, blasting, blazing early, this moment, on time, it always seems.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A short drive to an often messy, but fun break that has made many of my friends some of the best players in this moving meditation.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And my spot, often on the sands, sitting nearby, soaking up the peace that lives in the soothing sounds of the waves.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The chaos of the world diluted.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The chatter of the mind silenced.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The madness of the mind stands still,
the sweetest invitation to know my will.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I am sure, at my core, it sounds like the ocean.
